About the artist:
Swarna Chitrakar, a doyenne of Kalighat painting, belongs to a family of Patuas who practice this unique folk art of painting-cum-storytelling through songs. Over the last two decades, her work has won critical acclaim across India and around the world. Feted globally, Swarna has showcased her work and collaborated with artists across the US, UK, and Europe. Her paintings are sought after by connoisseurs and collectors.
Geographical Indication: Bengal Patachitra has been accorded a Geographical Indications (GI) tag in 2018. The GI tag is specifically attributable to the artwork's place of origin (West Bengal, Pingla, Naya village), and the materials and techniques used (Hand painted, using organic pigments on handmade paper.)
